Peruvian Folk Singer Soraya Nieto Assaulted onstage During Ayacucho Concert

AYACUCHO, PERU — Peruvian folk singer Soraya Nieto was injured during a live performance after an audience member reportedly threw a full beer bottle onto the stage.

The incident happened in San José de Chumbes, Ayacucho, during a local cultural celebration.

According to footage shared by BuzzinOnlineNews, the bottle struck Nieto directly in the face while she was performing. 

The impact shattered her prescription glasses and left her with serious facial injuries.

Singer Suffers Facial Trauma

Nieto reportedly suffered multiple cuts and heavy bruising after the attack.

Broken glass caused a deep wound beneath her lower lip. The injury required stitches.

Her left eye and eyebrow area also suffered significant swelling and bruising. Fortunately, reports indicate that doctors confirmed her eyesight was not permanently damaged.

Nieto was placed on 12 days of medical leave while recovering.

Attacker Reportedly Fled

The person responsible reportedly left the venue immediately after the assault.

Legal action has reportedly followed, with complaints filed over the physical attack and resulting facial injuries.

The incident has also sparked criticism over security at regional music events. Fans and fellow performers have called for stronger measures to protect artists onstage.

A Voice of Ayacucho

Nieto is an established performer within Ayacucho’s traditional music scene. She has worked to preserve the region’s musical heritage and cultural identity.

She performs traditional Ayacuchan music and huaynos. Her work has also included performances focused on preserving traditional Quechua-language music. Peru’s cultural institutions have previously highlighted her role in keeping Ayacucho’s folklore alive. 

Her 2026 releases include Huaynos Ancestrales and Soraya Encanta. 

The assault has now drawn renewed attention to the singer and the importance of protecting performers during live cultural events.
