Bolivian Lawyer Nadia Beller Shot Three Times Outside Hotel as Political Adviser Fernando Cerimedo Is Detained

Bolivian lawyer and political analyst Nadia Beller survives a shooting outside a hotel in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

The attack happened on August 17, 2026. Two men reportedly approached Beller while posing as motorcycle food-delivery workers. They allegedly shot her three times before taking her purse and phone.

Beller Survives the Attack

Beller, 33, remains hospitalized in stable condition. Doctors say the bullets did not hit her vital organs.

Beller spoke to investigators from her hospital bed. She identified Argentine political strategist Fernando Cerimedo as her former romantic partner. She also said she is four weeks pregnant with his child.

Political Adviser Detained

Bolivian police detained Cerimedo at Viru Viru International Airport. Authorities stopped him as he attempted to board a flight to Buenos Aires.

Cerimedo has worked with political figures including Argentina’s Javier Milei. He also worked with Bolivia’s Rodrigo Paz.

Authorities are investigating Cerimedo for attempted femicide. However, he denies involvement in the shooting and has rejected the accusations against him.

Beller Claims She Had Evidence

Beller says she believes someone wanted to silence her.

She claims her phone contained evidence linked to alleged corruption. Her allegations include questionable state insurance contracts and alleged kickbacks involving fuel distribution.

Beller also says she opposed Decree 5503. She reportedly viewed parts of the economic reform package as unconstitutional.

According to Beller, her political opposition may have made her a target.

Personal Allegations Also Under Investigation

Investigators are also examining Beller’s relationship with Cerimedo.

Beller claims their relationship ended after she discovered that Cerimedo was allegedly involved with another woman. She also accused him of physically abusing her during an earlier confrontation.

She further claims that authorities ignored previous reports connected to the alleged abuse.

Those claims remain allegations. Investigators have not established a motive for the shooting.

Her Phone Could Hold Key Evidence

The attackers reportedly stole Beller’s phone during the incident.

Beller says the device contained important information related to her corruption allegations. Investigators are expected to examine the theft as they work to establish who ordered the attack and why.

Police are also working to identify the two men who carried out the shooting.

Investigation Continues

Authorities continue to investigate the attack and Cerimedo’s possible connection to it.

The case has attracted major attention because of Cerimedo’s political connections in Bolivia and Argentina. However, his involvement remains unproven as the investigation continues.
