Surveillance Video Released After Murder Conviction

Newly released surveillance footage shows the moments leading up to the killing of Melvin Jimenez after Kamal Padlowski was found guilty of murder in the 2023 marina incident in Ruskin, Florida.

The court concluded the case yesterday, and officials released the surveillance video to the public afterward. The footage, which jurors also viewed during the trial, captures the confrontation that prosecutors said led to Jimenez’s death.

Video Shows Fatal Dock Confrontation

According to prosecutors, the video shows Padlowski approaching Jimenez as the two walked along a marina dock.

Padlowski then shoved Jimenez with significant force. Jimenez struck the back of his head on part of the dock and immediately lost consciousness.

Prosecutors said the impact caused a severe head injury that left Jimenez unable to defend himself.

The footage then shows Padlowski dragging Jimenez’s unconscious body across the dock before pushing him into the water.

Witnesses Describe What Happened

During the trial, prosecutors presented testimony from several witnesses.

One witness told jurors that Padlowski approached by boat and said, “I think I just killed my best friend.”

Another witness testified that Padlowski admitted, “I think I might’ve killed somebody,” before pointing toward Jimenez’s body in the water.

Those statements became key pieces of evidence during the trial.

Jury Finds Padlowski Guilty

Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to reports of a possible shooting. However, investigators quickly determined that Jimenez had entered the water after suffering the head injury seen in the surveillance footage.

Prosecutors argued that Padlowski chose to move Jimenez’s body instead of calling for help. They said he dragged the unconscious victim to the edge of the dock and pushed him into the marina.

After hearing witness testimony and reviewing the surveillance footage, the jury found Padlowski guilty of murder yesterday.
