Skippa and Malie Donn headline separate events as dancehall rivalry dominates holiday weekend
The ongoing rivalry between Skippa and Malie Donn extended beyond the studio over the holiday weekend, with both dancehall artistes headlining major events on Saturday, July 4.
Fresh off releasing his diss track “Detox,” Skippa headlined the 2026 edition of the Sandz Caribbean Music Festival at Markham Fairgrounds in Ontario, Canada, performing for Caribbean music fans during one of the country’s established summer festivals.
Meanwhile, Malie Donn returned to Kingston to headline Fanatic, a large-scale dancehall event that also featured performances from Merkz, YMO G and Eddy G. The show was promoted as a major hometown appearance for the deejay and drew a strong turnout.
Although the events took place in different countries, fans online quickly compared the two performances as the latest chapter in the ongoing lyrical feud between the artistes.
The rivalry has intensified in recent weeks following the release of Malie Donn’s “Back 2 Basic” and Skippa’s response, “Detox,” with supporters continuing to debate both tracks and the live performances that followed.
While neither event was promoted as a clash, the timing of the two headline performances added another talking point to one of dancehall’s most discussed rivalries in 2026.
